50 ways you could have died in 2016 (in Nigeria).

Thank God we made it into 2017. As we make our plans on how to become better in 2017, it is worth spending a few moments in gratitude for the opportunity we have had to see 2017 – especially in Nigeria where anything can kill. I was thinking about the so many ways I could have died, and decided I had to make a list. So brothers and sister, be grateful for life, as here are 50 ways you could have died in 2016.

  1. You could have been involved in a train accident
  2. You could have been killed in a brand new, collapsed posh building, in an old collapsed police college building, or even in a church building
  3. You could have gone to your shop and have it collapse and kill you
  4. You could have been walking by, minding your own business and a container could have fallen on your head
  5. The Lassa Fever outbreak could have killed you
  6. Fulani herdsmen could have killed you
  7. Boko Haram
  8. Niger Delta Avengers
  9. You could have been killed during your early morning evangelism

  10. You could have been killed over grazing land you knew nothing about
  11. You could have been attacked on a sunny afternoon by unidentified militants
  12. IPOB/MASSOB rallies could have claimed your life
  13. You could have starved to death at an IDP camp
  14. You and your house could have been washed away by a flood
  15. You could have been drowned at the beach
  16. You could have fallen ill and died trying to serve your country at the  NYSC Orientation Camp
  17. You could have drowned in a pool when you went out to celebrate your birthday
  18. You could have drowned while trying to do your job
  19. You could have been killed by your husband
  20. You could have been killed by your wife
  21. You could have been killed by your son
  22. You could have been hacked to death by your stepson
  23. You could have been stabbed to death by your cousin
  24. You could have been stabbed to death by your landlord
  25. You could have been stabbed by your housekeeper
  26. You could have been killed by a childhood friend

  27. Your tyre could have burst and killed you
  28. Someone else’s tyre could have burst and killed you
  29. You could have been crushed by a lorry whose brakes failed
  30. You could have been killed by a speeding trailer driver
  31. You could have been killed by a hit and run vehicle
  32. You could have been electrocuted by a piece of metal sticking out on the road 
  33. An angry mob could have decided that you had blasphemed against their prophet, and decapitated you.
  34. You could have been hacked to death by gunmen over the church offering money
  35. You could have been killed by a policeman five days to your weddin
  36. You could have been killed over Christmas food

  37. You could have been abducted, killed and dismembered during your lunch break
  38. You could have had your throat slit while sleeping rough in church
  39. You could have been gang-raped to death
  40. You could have fallen to your death in a well
  41. You could have been killed alongside a stranger committing suicide
  42. Your home could have been broken into, after which you could have been disembowelled
  43. You could have been killed by eating a dodgy batch cassava flour meal
  44. You could have been electrocuted in a power surge 

  45. You could have been tortured to death by the police
  46. You could have been kidnapped and murdered
  47. You could have committed suicide
  48. You could have died in hospital
  49. You could have died at the amusement park
  50. You could have died out of frustration.
