International scholarship programs

1. Africa’s Leadership University Scholarship/Internship programme

Programme: Full degree with integrated 1 year work internship.

Where: Africa’s Leadership University, Mauritius

Level: Undergraduate

Deadline: December 7th, 2014

Scholarship fund: Not specified, but includes tuition, pocket money, air fare to and from Nigeria, laptop and tablet for learning.

Programmes: Business, Entrepreneurship, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Humanities, Electrical Engineering.

Eligibility Criteria: 

If you have graduated from high school, are ideally 17-25 years old (though all ages are welcome), and are committed to your success, we want you to apply! ALU welcomes applications from people with a wide variety of backgrounds and qualifications, skills and experiences. We look for students who are able to demonstrate their potential to succeed and we feel will do well in our rigorous learning environment. We recognise that people acquire skills and abilities in many different ways – so for this reason, we provide applicants with the opportunity to share both their academic and non-academic experiences and qualifications with us as part of the application process.

2. University of Twente MSc Scholarship programme

Programme: MSc degree Scholarship

Where: University of Twente, The Netherlands

Level: Postgraduate

Deadline: December 30, 2014

Scholarship fund:  € 6,000 – € 25,000 for one year

Eligibility/Application Requirements:

To qualify for a UTS, candidates must fulfil all of the following requirements below:

  •  Your programme starts in September 2015
  •  You have been (provisionally) admitted to one of the above mentioned UT graduate programmes before 15 December 2014;
  •  You have to include a motivation letter in your application (250 – 500 words), this motivation letter explains: (1) What you have studied in the past; (2) What goal you want to reach through your study at UT; (3) How you plan to receive this goal; (4) Why you particularly choose to study at the University of Twente;
  •  You comply with the conditions for obtaining an entry visa in the Netherlands (if applicable).
  •  You comply with the general English language test requirement Academic IELTS 6.5 (or TOEFL iBT of 90) and an additional 6.0 (TOEFL iBT 20) on the subscore of speaking skills.
  •  You are not eligible for a Dutch study grant.
  •  You have completed a pre-master at the University of Twente (if applicable).
  •  You may already apply for a UTS even if you have to do a pre-master programme at the University of Twente first. However, you must complete your pre-master programme with a CGPA of 7.5 (out of 10) to be eligible for a UTS and comply with above mentioned requirements.

3. The Google Anita Borg Memorial scholarship 

Programme: Scholarship

Where: Any University in Europe, the Middle East or Africa

Level: Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels

Deadline: February 2, 2015

Scholarship fund: €7,000 for the 2015-2016 academic year.

Eligibility Criteria: 

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be a female student currently enrolled at a university for the 2014-2015 academic year
  • Intend to be enrolled in or accepted as a full-time student in a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD program at a university in Europe, the Middle East or Africa for the 2015-2016 academic year
  • Be studying Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Informatics or a closely related technical field

Maintain a strong academic record

4. Louis Dreyfus-Weidenfeld Scholarship and Leadership Programme

Programme: Scholarship

Where: Oxford University, England.

Level: Postgraduate

Deadline: 9th January 2015

Scholarship fund: £13,863. 100% of university fees and a grant for living costs for the full duration of the course.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Applicants must belong to transition and emerging economics from Africa, Asia and South America.
  • Candidate must be applying for full-time graduate course of study in the provided areas at the University of Oxford.
  • Applicants must be willing to return to their country of ordinary residence once the course is completed.
  • Applicants must demonstrate an interest in serving the global community through their chosen field of work, including but not limited to, agriculturehealth care, environmental and water management, economic, public and foreign policy.

Applicants must also complete a Weidenfeld Scholarships Questionnaire and upload it, together with their graduate application form, by the deadline, in order for the application to be complete.

How to apply: You must first apply to one of the eligible programmes, and then select “Louis Dreyfus scholarship” w hen you get to the “funding sources” part of your application. You also need to download and fill out the questionnaire located on the right side of this page and upload with your application.

5. Master’s Degree and Internship Program of the African Business Education Initiative for Youth (ABE Initiative)

Programme: A  master’s degree and internship program within the African Business Economic initiative framework. The aim is to support young personnel who have the potential to contribute to the development of industries in Africa. This program offers opportunities for young African men and women to study at master’s courses in Japanese universities as international students (hereafter referred to as participants) and experience internships at Japanese enterprises. The aim is for them to develop effective skills in order for them to contribute to various fields. It is expected that the duration of stay in Japan will be a maximum of 3 years. (6 months as a research student, 2 years as a student for master course and 6 months as an intern)

  • Citizens of one of the 54 African countries (includes Nigeria)
  • Between 22 and 39 years old (as of April 1st in the year of you arrival in Japan)
  • A bachelor’s degree
  • Applicants from government sectors/ educators who have both of the following:
  • -At least 6 months working experience at their current organization -Permission from their current organization to apply
  • Have adequate English proficiency, both in written and oral communication (IELTS score of over 5.5 is preferred).
  • Clearly understand the objective of this program and have a strong will to contribute to the industrial development of their country while broadening and strengthening the linkage between their country and Japan
  • Not currently applying or planning to apply to scholarship programs offered by other organizations
  • Have good health condition, both physically and mentally, to complete the program
  • Not Military personnel

You’ll also need a certified photocopy of your degree or diploma certificate, an academic transcript, national ID with your birth date, a recommendation letter from your employer and photograph.
